Bonfire

Community Bonfire and Fireworks

This event is held at Stanpit Recreation Ground on the closest Saturday to November 5th. It started in 1976 as a joint venture between Christchurch Round Table and Christchurch Rotary Club but is now wholly run by Rotary. It is an event for families consisting of a bonfire and an operator controlled firework display. There is a fun competition for children to enter and a band to entertain the crowds before the firework display starts. Other local Service Clubs and Youth organisations from within the Borough have novelty type or food stalls in the arena area to raise money for their chosen cause for which they pay a pitch fee.

Rotary raises its money from the pitch fees, the generous sponsorship of local businesses and entry charges to the event. There is a specific Committee that has been set up to run this event and the monies raised are used to support Youth Organisations and individuals within the Borough of Christchurch.

To enable the event to run smoothly the full support of every Rotarian is needed to assist in the putting up and taking down of security fencing, stalls etc, to marshal the crowds and to collect entry monies at the gate.

The Rotary Club of Christchurch acknowledges that this event could not take place without the help and support of Christchurch Borough Council, Dorset Police, Dorset Fire and Rescue Service and St Johns Ambulance as well as the other Service Clubs and Youth Organisations who participate.
